The first theme for the Healthy Kids Community Challenge is Run. Jump. Play. Every Day. This theme encourages physical activity through a mix of active play, sport, active transportation and activities. Kids, parents, families have the opportunity to participate in the following programs for FREE. Check back here regularly for new programs and updates.
Walk to school this October!
Students and parents are encouraged to walk to school during the month of October.

From May 1 to June 12, kids (5 -12 years old) can participate in the Walk Around Ajax program and walk 41,000 steps (33 km) – the same distance as the perimeter of the Town of Ajax.
To track their steps, participants can pick up a free pedometer and Healthy Kids Ajax Passport from any Town of Ajax Community Centre or Library. To be eligible for incentives and prizes, completed passports must be dropped off to any Town of Ajax Community Centre or Library by June 12, 2016.
– First 100 kids to reach 41,000 steps before June 12 will be eligible for special prizes.
– All participants will be entered to win one of three bicycles.

Encourage Ajax students to bike to school, register your School for Bike to School Week 2016. All registered Ajax Schools will receive a FREE bike rack + classroom prizes!
Registered Ajax Schools: Applecroft PS, Lord Elgin PS, Lester B Pearson, St Patrick Catholic School, Archbishop Denis O’Connor Catholic High School, Westney Heights PS and Southwood Park PS.
Snowshoe and stay active this winter. Snowshoes are available for loan to individuals, families, community groups and organizations and schools from the Town’s Community Recreation Centres. Please call 905-619-2529, ext. 7513 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to ensure availability.
Ice Skates will also be available in spring 2016 for loan at the Ajax Community Centre.
Experience a walking story book! Participants will read pages from a book placed along a trail. After the walk, participants join in physical and creative activities.
Look for the Storybook Trail at community events. Over at the Rink: a hockey counting book written by local Ajax author, Stella Grasso Partheniou and illustrated by Scot Richie is the first featured book.
